TCP port check

Use TCP port check to test whether a single host and port appears reachable.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the host and port are in scope.
  • Use one host and one port per request.
  • Do not use this tool for broad port scanning or unauthorised reconnaissance.

Check a TCP port

  1. Open chat or a supported tool-enabled workflow.
  2. Enable Actions if required.
  3. Enter the host and port.
  4. Ask EtherAssist to check reachability and summarise the result.
  5. Compare the result with firewall, load balancer, or service logs if the outcome is unexpected.

Examples:

Check whether tcp.example.com port 443 is reachable.
Run a TCP port check for mail.example.com on port 25 and explain the result.

Results to review

EtherAssist may return:

  • connection success or failure;
  • timing or timeout information;
  • basic interpretation;
  • next troubleshooting steps.

Safety

Only check hosts and ports you own, administer, or have permission to test. Keep checks targeted and do not use this feature for broad port scanning.

Tips

  • Keep names, prompts, and configuration values specific to the task you are performing.
  • Check role, subscription, region, and tenant policy when a feature is not visible.

Troubleshooting

IssueWhat to try
Connection refusedConfirm the service is listening and the firewall permits the source path.
TimeoutReview network ACLs, firewall rules, and private endpoint exposure.
Intermittent resultCheck load balancer health probes and service availability.
