Email domain check
Use the email domain check to review common mail configuration signals for a domain.
Before you begin
- Confirm you are authorised to review the email domain.
- Use the root mail domain unless you need to test a specific subdomain.
- Have any known DKIM selectors ready if you want selector-specific checks.
Check an email domain
- Open chat or a supported tool-enabled workflow.
- Enable Actions if required.
- Enter the email domain.
- Ask EtherAssist to review MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
- Review the findings before changing mail routing or policy records.
Examples:
Check the email domain posture for example.com.
Review MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for example.com and explain any gaps.
Results to review
EtherAssist can help interpret:
- MX records;
- SPF records;
- DMARC policy;
- DKIM selector checks where a selector is provided or discoverable;
- practical remediation suggestions.
Safety
Use this for domains you own, administer, or are authorised to review. DNS records are public, but conclusions should still be handled carefully because mail posture can reveal operational details.
Tips
- Keep names, prompts, and configuration values specific to the task you are performing.
- Check role, subscription, region, and tenant policy when a feature is not visible.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| DKIM is not found | Provide the selector or check the sending platform configuration. |
| SPF is too broad | Review include mechanisms and flatten only when your mail platform supports it. |
| DMARC is missing or weak | Start with monitoring policy and move toward enforcement through change control. |
